Martin Luther King Jr. had a short haircut with a low taper fade and a mustache styled to resemble a butterfly. His barber, Nelson Malden, regularly trimmed his hair and mustache at Malden Brothers Barber Shop in Montgomery, Alabama. MLK preferred his mustache to be styled up off his lip, often requesting it to be shaped like a butterfly.
